The Tucker W. Hipps Memorial Foundation

The Tucker W. Hipps Memorial Foundation was created to honor the life of Tucker, the beloved son of Cindy and Gary Hipps. Tucker passed away at the age of 19 while attending Clemson University, leaving behind family, friends, and a community who knew him as a young man full of energy, faith, and compassion.

Tucker was passionate about people. He loved mentoring others, sharing encouragement, and lending a hand to anyone in need. He found purpose in programs like Palmetto Boys State, where he grew as a leader and discovered the importance of brotherhood, service, and living as an example for others.

Though Tucker’s life was cut short, his influence continues. The Foundation exists to carry forward the light he brought to those around him — through scholarships for young leaders, partnerships with community organizations, and efforts to raise awareness about hazing so that no other family has to endure a similar loss.

In support of hazing transparency, the Tucker Hipps Transparency Act was passed in South Carolina (2016). It requires public institutions in SC to publish findings on violations of student organization conduct, including hazing.

Our Impact

Scholarships & Educational Support

We award scholarships in Tucker’s name to young men who have demonstrated leadership, character, and a connection to Boys State. These funds help with college expenses and open doors to higher education.

Community Partnerships & Grants

We partner with local nonprofits serving the needy, assisting the homeless, feeding those in need, and supporting mentorship programs. Our goal is to make a tangible difference in our region through direct support and collaboration with on-the-ground organizations.

Hazing Awareness & Prevention

Tucker’s death occurred during a fraternity pledging activity. The exact circumstances remain unclear, but there is reason to believe certain preceding actions and decisions contributed to tragedy. We use Tucker’s story to raise awareness of hazing, support anti-hazing measures, and encourage safer fraternity life policies.

Scholarships distributed to deserving young men (especially those connected with Boys State)

Grants to local nonprofits addressing homelessness, hunger, education, and mentorship

Event operations like the golf tournaments, fishing tournament and other fundraisers that both raise funds and awareness

Programming, outreach, and partnerships for anti-hazing education
